The Army Department Retired Officers’ Association was formed in 1966 because of a chance meeting at a party of Colonel Cliff Wood and the Head of the Inspector of Establish-ments (Army). Colonel Wood was told that the Inspectorate was constantly in touch with Unions and Associations concerning conditions of service of most grades of the Civil Service, but no organisation could speak for the Retired Officer grade and so changes could be made in establishments or terms of service which would not be of benefit to the grade.
This book offers a comprehensive history of the ROA, from its foundation in 1966 through to its closure in 2013. Using original source docume-nts, Gordon MacDougall offers an authoritative history.
